The Mountaindale Try-it was introduced in 2006 at Mountaindale North Day Camp. It was written and designed by a Gold Award Recipient Girl Scout working with the Camp Director and approved by council for our use only. While earning this try-it girls learn all about Mountaindale.

***The Mountaindale Try-it Units is where all 1st graders will be assigned***

Below is a list of Requirements for the Try-it - only 4 need to be completed to earn it; usually during the week all requirements are completed.

 

  • Requirement 1.  Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington has rangers that take care of each program site that Girl Scouts use. Find and learn the names of the rangers at Mountaindale.  How long have they been rangers? What do they do? What do they love about being a ranger that keeps them at camp year after year?

  • Requirement 2.  Locate and find a building at Mountaindale that was built when the camp was first made.

  • Requirement 3.  Take a hike on one of Mountaindale's hiking trails.

  • Requirement 4.  Learn about Marilyn's Place: Where is it? Why was it built? Who is it named after? When was it built? Who can stay there?

  • Requirement 5.  Go on a scavenger hunt and find all the major places at Mountaindale.

  • Requirement 6.  Why are you at Mountaindale? Are you here for Day Camp, to have fun, Why? Meet your Day Camp Director(s).

  • Requirement 7.  Help to improve Mountaindale by doing a service project: Make an animal habitat, stack sticks for the frogs, make a bird home, pick up litter, etc.

  • Requirement 8.  Learn how to do square gimp with two strings or try spiral gimping.

  • Requirement 9.  Identify some of the local animals you may see at camp, such as a Blue Jay, mosquito, deer, etc. Try and find at least 4 basic species, could be plants as well.
